Ingrid has extensive experience evaluating therapeutic, criminological and educational programmes. Her work has led to the development of innovative and reliable assessment tools to measure the impact of initiatives designed to achieve social justice outcomes. Ingrid has used her research findings to develop and then evaluate manualised trainings with parents, prison officers and university lecturers.
Ingrid is a senior lecturer in clinical psychology at the University of Edinburgh, a certified trainer in observational coding of interactions, and delivers training on a wide range of topics, including a range of quantitative statistical research methods. She makes leading randomised control trials utilising propensity score matching tools and developing validated measurement scales understandable and accessible and is a magician when it comes to turning observations into numbers that explain realities. Ingrid is a rare breed of statistical genius and emotional intelligence, gently bringing her expertise to the table and always working with people in ways that always communicate ‘I see you, I hear you’.

"The Welcome Directory has greatly benefited from the expertise and research of Dr Ruth Armstrong. Her input and research findings have been crucial for the development and design of our Prisons Awareness Course, in training faith communities and both enabling and equipping them to engage in this work.
The films that Ruth and her team produced to accompany the course have proved to be an excellent online resource which continues to support and educate faith communities and potential volunteers on the realities of life and faith in prison.
During the lockdown, as a result of the pandemic, Ruth provided further guidance and strategic insight for the adaption of the training material for online audiences, ensuring that the voices of prison leavers were elevated, heard and understood. We are most grateful for Ruth's ongoing support and consultancy in the development of our work and would highly recommend working with her."
"Working with Justice Matters on the strategic organisational development of our nonprofit is the best development investment we have ever made. As our organisation's leader, I was at a loss for how to move forward with a new mission focus during a period of intense change.
I knew we needed to clarify team roles and relationships and operationalise our values, but I didn't know how. Justice Matters came alongside us to engage in a radical act of seeing that brought forth relational and missional gold. Ruth was knowledgeable about the challenges we faced in our reentry project and experienced in uncovering mission-driven solutions.
As an attentive listener, she buoyed me up by the lifeline of care she threw me. Her acute intuition about when to hold space for me and when to press me into growth enabled me to emerge as a stronger leader throughout the consultation process. Ruth's insight, professionalism, and knowledge of structural and relational development was surpassed only by her ability to deliver results.
Following a series of focused meetings with me and each of our partners, she delivered succinct and deeply insightful feedback that clarified and enhanced our mission and, dare I say, saved our project, our client, our partners, and me!"
"The Prison Radio Association’s consultancy with Justice Matters has had an immense influence on how we do our work and measure our impact.
I have worked closely with Ruth to develop the strategy and operations of our international work. Prison Radio International is now, largely thanks to Ruth’s work, a growing global movement that is changing and even saving lives in criminal justice settings around the world.
Ruth’s understanding of justice systems in the UK, and internationally, is remarkable. She instinctively knows how to get things done and has always been a complete joy to work with. She has real skill in building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships and networks. She does all of this from a place of real empathy and compassion.
I cannot recommend Justice Matters more highly. If you have a project that you think they could help with, don’t wait – I’d strongly suggest you engage them immediately!"
"Working with Ruth and her team transformed my organisation’s ability to get our messaging clear. Ruth really listened to us and grasped the nuance which is so vital to our approach and our working relationships with statutory partners."
"Ruth is an inspiring leader – hugely knowledgeable, passionate about learning and truly people centred."
